February 2nd: Lecture + Colloquium

  • Clara Löh: Simplicial volume of one-relator groups

We introduce a notion of simplicial volume for one-relator groups and explain connections to the stable commutator length of the relator. In analogy with stable commutator length on free groups, we will also touch on computational aspects. This is joint work with Nicolaus Heuer.

RTG Lecture: Surgery theory and the Farrell Jones conjecture

In this lecture, we will continue with our exploration of classifying spaces for families. Our goal will be to formulate the full Farrell-Jones conjecture. The lecture will end with a brief overview of the current status of the conjecture.
