  • Title:
    Profinite rigidity and Kähler groups

    Abstract:
A group G is residually finite if any nontrivial element of G has a nontrivial image in some finite quotient of G. If G is residually finite, what can be said about the collection of all its finite quotients? Can we recognize G from the knowledge of its finite quotients? What can be said when G is a lattice in a Lie group? What about the case when G is the fundamental group of a smooth complex projective variety? I will survey these questions and present some recent results obtained in collaboration with Hughes, Llosa Isenrich, Stover, Spitler and Vidussi.
