  • Aspects of Teichmüller-Thurston Theory (James Farre)

This will be a crash course in some aspects of the theory of surfaces including an overview of the classical complex analytic theory and Thurston's work incorporating hyperbolic geometry which revolutionized the field of low dimensional topology and geometry.

Throughout, we will emphasize essential differences and similarities between the two theories. Near the end of the course, we will explain some recent work that relates the dynamics of several well studied (and less well studied) flows on certain bundles over the moduli space of surfaces.

    Cobordism theory (Georg Frenck)

In this course we will explore the classification of manifolds up to the equivalence relation of being cobordant.
